Winthrop’s Mark Britton was tabbed the Big South Conference  Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after a record-setting discus performance, the League announced today.
 
Britton, a freshman from Pennsboro, WV., posted a school-record throw of 51.03 meters (167 feet) to claim the top spot in the discus at the Winthrop Twilight last Sunday.  His mark is currently ranked No. 2 on the Big South Performance List.

His latest performance marked the third straight week that he has broken the school record.  His latest throw surpassed his previous record distance by nearly two feet.

Britton will be trying to qualify for the NCAA Regionals this weekend when he competes along with other Winthrop hopefuls at Georgia Tech.

Hirai has received an at-large invitation from the NCAA Div. I Men's Golf Committee to compete in the Athens Regional May 17-19 on the University of Georgia Golf Course.  Hirai finished his junior year with a 72.47 stroke average in 30 rounds of golf and had one tournament title, three top 10 finishes and six top 20 finishes.
