ROCK HILL, SC-- For the second straight season, Winthrop men’s soccer placed five players on the NSCAA/adidas All-South Atlantic Region Teams.
Daniel Revivo, Otto Loewy and Patrick Mitrovich were all three named to the first team while Stephen Nsereko and Henry Kalungi were named to the second team. It is the third straight year that Kalungi has earned the honor and the second time for Revivo, Nsereko and Loewy. It is the first time for Mitrovich, who has had the great numbers throughout his career.
“We were very fortunate to have had a very good season in 2008 as well as the past three years, and these players were rewarded for their efforts,” said head coach Rich Posipanko. “All have worked extremely hard during their career and are very deserving of this honor. It also speaks volumes for our program when you have five players honored in one of the best regions in the nation. We are certainly proud of every one of them.”
Revivo was named the Big South Conference Player of the Year and was an All-Big South selection for the third time in his career as he scored 14 goals and had nine assists this season. Mitrovich became the school most successful goalkeeper at the Division I level and was a First Team All-Big South selection for the third straight year. Loewy, a defender, was named to the First Team All-Big South and Big South Conference All-Tournament teams. Nsereko and Kalungi were both named to the All-Big South Teams for the third straight year as well.
Winthrop had more players chosen among the three teams and the five players were among 12 total players selected from the Big South Conference. The Big South had the most players on the first team with five while the ACC had three and the Colonial had two.
