ROCK HILL, SC– Winthrop women's head golf coach Jodi Wendt has announced her team will play in nine tournaments during the 2009-10 fall and spring seasons, including an appearance in the Pinehurst Challenge on Nov. 1-3 in Pinehurst, NC.
"I am very excited about our 2009-2010 schedule. We are playing in two new events for us in the fall at the Wendy's Invitational in Charleston and the Pinehurst Challenge," said Wendt. Our spring schedule includes one new event that is being hosted in Wallace, NC by UNC Wilmington. This event usually has a very strong field."
The Eagles' 11-woman roster will include eight returnees and three freshmen. "We are still fairly young and may feel some growing pains, but overall we have a very strong group of players this year," said Wendt.
The fall schedule gets underway on Sept. 18-20 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate in Waynesville, NC. The following week of Sept. 26-29 takes Winthrop to Greensboro, NC for the Starmount Fall Classic. The Eagles close out the fall season with the Wendy's Invitational in Charleston on Oct. 18-20, followed by the Pinehurst Challenge in November.
Winthrop will participate in five spring tournaments, culminated by the Big South Conference Championship on April 12-14 at The Patriot Golf Club near Greenwood, SC. The first tournament of the spring is the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate set for Feb. 22-23. On March 1-2 the Eagles will travel to Mobile, AL for the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational. The Eagles will host its annual Winthrop Intercollegiate March 15-16 at the Rock Hill Country Club before heading to Wallace, NC on March 22-23 for the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic. The regular season closes out with the Big South Championship.
