Freshman Kamito Hirai Leads Eagles With A 2-under 214 To Finish 11th

WALLACE, NC--The Winthrop men's golf team turned in its best performance of the spring season as the Eagles fired a 9-over par 873 team total to finish ninth at the ECU/UNCW River Landing Intercollegiate this weekend.
Winthrop opened with a 296 and followed with rounds of 291 and 286 over the par 72, 6,900-yard layout of the River Landing Golf Club that attracted 13 schools. Co-tournament host UNC Wilmington outdueled North Carolina for the team championship as the Seahawks finished with a 17-under total of 847 to nip UNC by two shots.
Winthrop freshman Kamito Hirai led the Eagles with a 2-under 214 (71-72-71) which was good for an 11th place tie. Red-shirt freshman Cameron Bell (77-71-72) and sophomore Kyle Bearden (73-75-72) shot 220 to tie for 28th place. Sophomore Brandon Truedale finished 41st with a 223 (75-77-71). Sophomore Jordan Sease came in at 69th after shooting a 231 (79-73-79).
The Eagles will travel to Spartanburg, SC on April 12-13 to play in the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational which will be played at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
