ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop Athletics has received a $2,500 donation from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Rock Hill and the Enterprise Holdings Foundation that will be used to help support the school's student-athlete community service projects that are conducted annually through the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).
The donation includes a $1,000 gift from the local Enterprise Rent-A-Car offices and $1,500 from the Enterprise Holdings Foundation. Enterprise has a strong commitment to working with community development which coincides with the Winthrop student-athletes' continued service within the local community as well. Founded in 1982, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation was established to allow the company to give back to the communities where its customers and employees live and work.
“We are certainly appreciative for this gift and we will utilize it to assist our student-athletes' efforts in continued community service projects,” said Winthrop Athletic Director Tom Hickman. “Our student-athletes and staff have placed community service as a high priority and many worthwhile projects have been completed during the years since SAAC was first formed.”
Over the previous two years, Winthrop student-athletes and staff have participated in more than 4,000 hours of community service projects, including Habitat for Humanity, Samaritan's Feet, A Place for Hope in the impoverished Blackmon Road neighborhood, and within the local school district. During the 2009-10 academic year, SAAC raised over $3,000 for such causes as Haiti Relief, Samaritan's Feet, the York County Boys and Girls Club and Back the Pack.
