Women's Soccer Travels To ETSU Women's Soccer Invitational Tournament This Weekend
Eagles Will Face Miami (OH) And East Tennessee State In Tournament

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women’s soccer team will hit the road for the second time this season to participate in the 2010 ETSU Soccer Invitational presented by DoubleTree Hotel. The tournament is hosted by East Tennessee State University and will take place in Johnson City, TN.
The tournament field will consist of the Eagles, Buccaneers, Temple Owls and Miami (OH) RedHawks.
The Eagles will open the invitational on Friday, Sept. 10 with a 4:30 matchup against the RedHawks, and will also play in the final game on Sunday, Sept. 12 against East Tennessee State at 3:30 p.m.
Winthrop will be facing Miami (OH) for the first time in program history on Friday, while its contest against the Buccaneers will be the third time the two teams have met. East Tennessee State and the Eagles last met on Aug. 29, 2004 in Johnson City, TN where the Buccaneers walked away with a 3-0 victory.
East Tennessee State (3-1-1) has posted victories so far this season over UNC Asheville, King College and Tennessee Wesleyan. Ramey Kerns leads the squad with three goals and seven points, and is one of seven Buccaneers to record one assist. Goalkeeper Megan Masch has allowed only three goals in her five games played and has snagged a total of nine saves.
The Owls are currently 2-3 in the 2010 season with wins over Howard and Hartford. Kate Yurkovic posts a team-high three assists and nine points, while tying both Niki Conn and Allicia Yurkovic with three goals each. Goalkeepers Kara Williams and Tara Murphy have split time in the net for Temple this season, with Murphy grabbing 11 saves and Williams allowing only two goals.
The Redhawks have a record of 3-2 this year recording victories over Alabama A&M, Chattanooga and Western Illinois. Sarah Dessfelt leads Miami (OH) with four goals on the season, while Jess Kodiak leads the team in assists (5) and points (11). Goalkeepers Madison Ryan and Rachelle Boff have each played 225 minutes in net for the RedHawks in 2010. Ryan posts the better numbers allowing four goals to go along with seven saves. Boff has four saves and has given up six goals.
Winthrop (0-2-1) will look to pick up its first win of the 2010 season after opening up with a 2-2 tie against Marshall before dropping back-to-back contests against Appalachian State and Jacksonville. Senior Tricia Vensel leads the Eagles with four points, and is tied with redshirt freshman Gabrielle Corn and freshman Megan Pritts for the team lead in goals with one apiece. Vensel and sophomore Allie Vandewater also have team-highs in assists with two each. Redshirt junior Kelsy Weavil and sophomore Sarah Schippers have both appeared in goal for Winthrop this season with Weavil starting in two games and Schippers in one. Weavil has 11 total saves, while Schippers has allowed two goals.
