LEXINGTON, VA. - Senior sprinter Sasha Robinson and senior hurdler Keary Simms captured Big South Conference individual championships and a total of nine Winthrop athletes earned All-Conference honors as the 2011 Big Soujth Track and Field Championships concluded on Saturday at VMI.

As a team, the Winthrop women placed sixth while the men finished eighth.  Liberty claimed its fifth straight men's championship while Coastal Carolina's ended Liberty's nearly two-year reign in the women's competition by unseating the Lady Flames.

Liberty scored 187.5 points to take the men's title, 76 ahead of Coastal Carolina's 111.5. Charleston Southern was third with 109, while host VMI was fourth with 101 markers. Radford finished with 83, while High Point tallied 78. Gardner-Webb (76), Winthrop (54) and UNC Asheville (18) rounded out the team standings.

In the women's championship Coastal's 228 points were 61.5 better than Liberty's 166.5. Charleston Southern was third once again, finishing with 83 points, while High Point had 81. Gardner-Webb was fifth at 77.5 markers, while Winthrop (62.5), Radford (47.5), UNC Asheville (38) and VMI (33) completed the standings.

Robinson captured the 400 meter dash in a time of 55:38 seconds while Simms won his title in the 110 meter hurdles with a clocking of 14.23 seconds.  Robinson along with sophomore hurdler Sharrone Honor were double All-Conference performers.  Honor finished second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.30 seconds and teamed with Robinson, Jasmine Washington and Latasha Watson to finish second in the 4x400 meter relay.

Freshman Dee Gray, who also is a member of the women's basketball team, finished third in the shot put with a throw of 12.92 meters to give her a spot on the All-Conference team.  Rounding out the top women's performers for Winthrop was freshman Jeanne Stroud's third place finish in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:34.16.

On the men's side, middle distance performer Adam Leroux took second place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.16.  Travis Coleman closed out his career with a third place finish in the men's shot put with a heave of 15.64 meters.
