Men's, Women's Soccer Along With Men's/Women's Cross Country and Volleyball Will Present Check To Cancer Society

ROCK HILL, SC— The Third Annual “Kicks Against Cancer” game presented by the men's and women's soccer and cross country teams as well as the volleyball team, will be played on Tuesday, Aug 30 at Eagle Field at 7 p.m. Fans, boosters and the entire Rock Hill and York County community is invited to come out to the game as admission is free.

It is the third year for the event and the goal for this year is to again reach the $20,000. In a joint effort with the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter of Winthrop University, the goal of $10,000 the first year was surpassed by over $10,000 and last year's $20,000 goal was surpassed as well. Fundraising will continue through kick-off Tuesday, August 30.

Prior to the game the teams along with the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity will make a check presentation to the American Cancer Society in honor of Dr. Steven Limentani, who is recognized as one of the top doctors in his field of hematology/oncology.

“We are looking forward to the third Kicks Against Cancer.” said head men's soccer coach Rich Posipanko. “It is a welcomed break from pre-season for all our student-athletes and also a very rewarding event for them. We would really like to have a good fan turnout and would also encourage everyone to make a donation. Our goal is $20,000.  We are still in a tough economy and it has been much more difficult this year to raise money with less disposal income available for everyone and everything.

The teams and Pi Kappa Alpha are asking for fan support in sponsoring one of the players in the game or by making a donation in any amount . Your donation or pledge is tax deductible and 100% goes directly to the American Cancer Society. All fans are invited to attend the game as you can get a first hand glance at what the 2011 soccer teams have to offer.

If you are unable to attend the game, donations can still be made. For more information you can contact Posipanko at (803) 323-2129, ext. 6236 or email at posipankor@winthrop.edu  You can mail in a check directly to the soccer office or to fill out a sponsor form visit www.winthropsoccer.com which will take you to the main site and click on the Kicks Against Cancer logo.  You can also make a donation online from the Kicks Against Cancer website.
