ROCK HILL, SC--Senior
Adam Freudenthal coasted to victory in the 25th annual Winthrop Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday as he led the Eagle men to the team title over 10 other schools in the 8K race. In the women's competition, Winthrop finished fourth out of 12 schools in the 5K event as South Carolina claimed the team title.
Freudenthal (Spartanburg, SC) covered the Winthrop Lake Course in a time of 24:51.08 to win the individual title by 44 seconds over sophomore teammate
Steve Rivard (Goose Creek, SC) who was clocked in 25:35.26. As a team the Eagle men compiled 31 points as they place four runners in the top 10 finishers. Mount Olive College ran second with 43 points. Junior
AJ Fitzsimmons (Charleston, SC) placed fourth with a time of 26:04.97 while sophomore
Drew Harris (Lexington, SC) claimed ninth place with a time of 26:20.17.
South Carolina defended its women's team championship as it compiled 43 points to nose out second place Davidson which tallied 51 points. Wofford finished third with 86 points followed by Winthrop in fourth with 92 points.
The Lady Eagle runners were led by sophomore Jeanne Strroud (Charleston, SC) who placed eighth overall with a time of 18:42.44. Freshman Jessica Whitmire (Pendleton, SC) had the second best time for Winthrop as she ran the course in 19:07.52 to place 14th overall. Two spots behind in 16th place was another Lady Eagle freshman, Tristan Langley (Belmont, Nova Scotia) was was clocked in 19:15.17.
