Chad Smith is awarded Second Team All-Conference while senior outfielder
Max Vogel takes All-Academic Team honors.
Chad Smith, a native of Rock Hill, really came on strong offensively this season and provided solid play at the hot corner for the Eagles. Since March 22
nd (34 games), Smith led the team with a .333 batting average, 39 hits, and 20 RBI's. Additionally, he leads the team with a .310 batting average, 26 hits, and 10 RBI's in conference play. Smith also led the team with six multi-RBI games. Smith had nine multi-hit games including three three-hit games and one four hit game. Defensively, Smith committed just six errors (.949 fielding percentage) in 39 starts (37 at third base) while initiating seven double plays.

Senior
Max Vogel, a biology major, was elected to the Big South All-Academic Team for the second straight year. Vogel, a five time dean's list student, two time president's list student and a three time Big South Scholar was the recipient of the Winthrop Senior Academic Award which goes to the highest GPA (3.78) among senior athletes. On the field, he played in 44 games with 26 starts this season while batting .171 with eight runs and 11 RBI. He was perfect in the field with a 1.000 fielding percentage and included an outfield assist. Vogel had season-best three hits and two RBI vs. Davidson on Mar. 26. Vogel was second in the Big South in pinch hit at bats (14) and third in the conference in pinch hits (4).
