HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With two base runners, Wade Chandler singled to left, bringing MJ Lucas home, giving Asheville a 3-0 edge.
  • Winthrop struck back in its half of the first inning, leading off with back-to-back singles off the bats of Luke Hannum and Joey Tepper.
  • With one out, Dillon Morton singled down the left field line, bringing home both Tepper and Hannum to quickly cut Asheville's lead to one.
  • In the next at-bat, Ty Hooks singled up the other side of the field bringing Yankle home, who walked earlier in the inning, tying the contest at three.
  • Ohs threw a 1-2-3 top of the 2nd inning.
  • Tyler Baker led off the bottom of the 2nd with a double to left center.
  • With two outs, Scout McFalls singled to deep right field bringing home the go-ahead run, 4-3.
  • After recording two quick outs, Ohs walked Lucas on a full count, giving the Bulldogs a base runner for Sebastian Dunn, who would triple to right field, tying the game up at four.
  • Winthrop wouldn't let things stayed tied up for long with Baker hitting a deep single to center field, scoring Joseph Szvetitz and Hooks, who singled and doubled respectfully off the first pitch they saw, taking a 6-4 lead.
  • The runs continued in the bottom of the 4th, when the Geno Marra put the first two batters, Tepper and McFalls, on with no outs. Yankle flew out just deep enough for Tepper to tag up and score in the next at-bat.

  • With one out, Ohs gave up a single to Jones before walking Lucas in the next at-bat. Reese Lumpkin came in in relief.
  • Lumpkin walked the first batter he faced before giving up back-to-back singles to Chandler and Kohl Abrams who both brought home a run, cutting into Winthrop's lead, 8-6.

  • With two outs in the bottom of the 8th, Morton was walked on a full count, before Hooks singled, putting Morton in scoring position.
  • On a passed ball both runners advanced before Szvetitz reached on an error that gave Winthrop another run, 10-8.
