Spartanburg, S.C. — Winthrop dropped a doubleheader at league-leading USC Upstate, Friday evening. The Eagles fell 4-0 in the opener and 6-0 in the nightcap.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Macy McCall led off the game with a double and then moved over to third on a wild pitch
- The next three batters all struck out, stranding McCall at third
- Sydney Boulware held the Spartans hitless through the first four innings
- In the fifth inning Peyton Darnell drew a leadoff walk on a full count and was replaced by pinch-runner Caroline Jacquay
- Celeste Delorenzo followed with a single to put runners at first and second
- Boulware got the first out on a sacrifice that moved the runners and then got a fly out to center
- Then on a 2-2 count Marisa Soterakis reached on an error by Mackenzie Smith allowing both runners to score
- Then Sarah Price singled to right to make it 3-0 before Boulware got out of the inning on a ground out to first
- Spartans added another unearned run in the sixth inning for insurance
- Winthrop's bats were held in check by Hannah Houge who allowed one hit with a walk and struck out 12
- Boulware tossed her sixth complete game of the year allowing four unearned runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts
Game 2
- Upstate got on the board in the third inning with one out as Price doubled to left center and then scored on a single to left center by Delorenzo
- Tiffany Domingue followed with a single to center, scoring Delorenzo from second for a 2-0 advantage
- Denver Lauer added a two-run single later in the inning to lead 4-0
- Upstate added another run in the fourth and the fifth
EXTRA BASES
- McCall's double in the first game gave her a new single-season high of nine, passing her mark of eight she set as a freshman
- Eagles had one stolen base on the day for a total of 70 on the season, moving them 9th on the single-season Top 10
ON DECK
These same two teams will complete the three-game series on Saturday, Apr. 2 with a single-game at 1 p.m.
