SERIES HISTORY VERSUS CHARLOTTE
The two schools will meet for the 45th time with Charlotte leading the series, 24-19-1. This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams this season, with the second game occurring on Apr. 23 in Rock Hill. The Eagles and the 49ers met for the first time on Apr. 17, 1980 in Rock Hill, with Winthrop winning 3-0 on the way to winning 11 of the first 20 contests from 1980-2005. The 49ers then won eight of the next nine games from 2005-2012 but the series has been practically even from 2013 onwards, with Charlotte holding a slight 8-7 edge. The two teams met twice last season in 2023, with Charlotte winning 4-3 on Apr. 11 in the Queen City with Winthrop winning the return match in Rock Hill by a score of 5-2 on Apr. 23.
