Women's Golf Team Captures 4th Place At Wendy's Invitational In Charleston (10-20-09)

Sophomore Katie Bolling Ties For 14th Place To Lead Lady Eagles

N. CHARLESTON, SC--The Winthrop women's golf team finished fourth out of 15 teams in the 2009 CSU Wendy's Invitational which was played Monday and Tuesday at the Coosaw Creek Country Club.

Winthrop shot a 36-hole total of 627 (315-312) on the par 71 layout. The Lady Eagles were led by sophomore Katie Bolling who tied for 14th place in medal play after firing a 154 (78-76).  Just one shot back was freshman Danielle Dunnagan at 155 (79-76).  Senior Rachel Smith tied for 24th place after shooting 159 (80-79) while sophomore Brittany Penny came in tied for 28th at 161 (81-80).  Rounding out the Winthrop lineup was sophomore Kayla Cline who finished tied for 37th place at 163 (79-84).

Coastal Carolina, a sister Big South Conference member, captured the team title with 19-shot victory over second place College of Charleston.  The Lady Chanticleers shot 586 as a team.

The tournament medalist honor was captured by Coastal's aruka Felgueroso who was the only player in the field to break par as she shot a 2-under 140.
