Blythewood H.S. Golf Standout Signs With Winthrop (11-12-09)

Winthrop Coach Kevin Pendley Adds Another South Carolina High School Standout To Golf Program

ROCK HILL, SC--Winthrop men's golf coach Kevin Pendley has added another standout  high school golfer from South Carolina to his program as Blythewood's Damon Postal will join the Eagles in 2010-11.

Postal is the No. 2 ranked player in South Carolina and is ranked No. 59 in the nation by Golfweek Magazine.  He is ranked 31st nationally for the class of 2010. He was selected on the 2009 South Carolina All-State team.

“We are excited to have Damon Postal sign with our program," said Pendley. "He is a great young man from a terrific family, and he is a great competitor and an excellent student who will be a terrific addition to our team!."

According to Pendley, Postal possesses a very good iron game and is a solid driver of the golf ball, both for length and for accuracy.  "More important are the intangibles he will bring--his work ethic, his competitive fire and his willing desire to improve in every aspect of his game, on and off the golf course," says the Winthrop coach. "He should push for playing time immediately and along with our current core group of players, help us take the next step as a program."

He advanced to the second round of United States Junior Championship (round of 32), finished 7th in  the 2009 South Carolina Junior Championship, and was a semifinalist in 2009 South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship.

Postal finished in third place at the 2009 Joe Cheves Junior Invitational.  He was also a member of the 2009 South Carolina team in SC-GA Matches (top 8 Juniors from each state)

He is the son of  Lee and Melinda Postal.
