GREENSBORO, NC – The Winthrop women's golf team finished seventh out of 10 schools in the 54-hole  UNCG Starmount Fall Classic which was completed Tuesday afternoon at the Starmount Country Club.

The Lady Eagles shot a tournament total of 951 (317-312-322) to finish well behind tourney champion Campbell which fired a tournament record 887.  Following the opening round on Sunday, Winthrop was tied for seventh place and it could not improve its standing on Monday or Tuesday as the teams battled a blustery wind.

Winthrop was led by senior Rachel Smith (Mansfield, TX) who tied for 24th place after shooting a 19-over par score of 232 (75-74-83).  Her second round score of 74 was the lowest 18-hole total for any Lady Eagle player.  Sophomore Katie Bolling (New Brighton, MN) tied for 36th place with a 237 (79-82-76).  Next in 41st place was sophomore Ellie O'Brien (Charleston, SC) at 242 (81-76-85).  Sophomore Kayla Cline (Socorro, NM) tied for 48th place after turning in a 245 (84-82-79) while sophomore Katie Keiser (Gothenburg, NE) rounded out Winthrop's players with a 246 (82-80-84) which was good for 48th place.

Campbell's Mary Mattson, who entered the day with a five-shot lead, held on
to capture medalist honors with a three-shot advantage over teammate Teresa Arocena.

The Lady Eagles will return to action Oct. 18-20 when they play in the Wendy's Classic in Charleston, SC.
