Travis Coleman Breaks His Own School Record In Men's Weight Throw (1-24-10)

Travis Coleman Joins Ashley Howard Joins Coleman By Breaking Her Own School Record In Women's Weight Throw

JOHNSON CITY, TN--Winthrop seniors Travis Coleman and Ashley Howard led the Winthrop women's and men's indoor track teams with record-breaking performances in the weight throw events during  this past weekend's Niswonger Invitational held at East Tennessee State University.

Coleman (West Milford, WV,, the reigning Big South Conference  outdoor champion had a strong meet as he was a finalist in both the 35-lb. weight throw and the shot put, finishing 7th in each event. He broke his own school record in the weight throw with a heave of 54-ft, 1-in. and had a toss of 50-ft, 2- inches in the shot.

Winthrop had a host of other top performances in their  largest indoor meet of the season that attracted 30 schools.  Howard (Wilmington, OH) shattered her own school record by more than 18 inches as she finished as the top collegian in the 25-lb. weight throw with a heave of 17.57 meters (57-feet, 8-inches). 

Sophomore Adam Freudanthal (Spartanburg, SC) continued to build on his strong fall campaign with a 7th place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time  of 15:10.39 . Junior Keary Simms (Fort Pierce, FL)  Leaped to a 5th place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 47-ft, 1-inch.

The Winthrop men's and women's indoor track teams will return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, VA.
