Three Winthrop Track & Field Athletes Ranked In NCAA Top 100 (1-26-10)

Adam Freudenthal, Ashley Howard and Carrie Phillips Move Into NCAA Top 100 Rankings

ROCK HILL, SC-- Three Winthrop track and field athletes are ranked in the top 100 in the NCAA, according to the latest Track and Field Results Reporting System, the national database for NCAA track and field.

Sophomore distance runner Adam Freudenthal (Spartanburg, SC) broke into the national rankings in the 5000 meters with an eighth place finish and a time of 15:10.39 at last weekend's Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State.  That time was good enough for 61st in the national rankings for the event.

On the women's side, Ashley Howard (Wilmington, OH) is continuing a fine senior campaign after setting a school record in the weight throw at East Tennessee State. She is currently ranked 61st, but is less than half a meter out of the top 25 and slightly more than a meter away from NCAA provisional qualifying.

Senior Carey Phillips (Chesnee, SC) broke into the top 100 with an 11th place finish in the 5000 meters at ETSU that vaulted her into 76th place nationally with a time of 18:21.59.
