ROCK HILL, SC--Former Winthrop track standout Kandrick Cooper will compete in the USATF Indoor National Championship this weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Cooper, the seven-time Big South champion and three-time NCAA qualifier in the 60m hurdles, will be running in his first post collegiate national championship. Cooper joins fellow alum Matt Elliott who competed in last year's outdoor championship in Eugene , Oregon as the only two former Eagles to compete in this prestigious meet. Kandrick' s time of 7.82 seconds at last week's Appalachian State Indoor meet was good enough to gain a qualifying mark for this weekend's competition. The meet, sponsored by Visa will serve as a qualifying meet for next month's World championships in Doha, Qatar .
"Coach Schreiner and myself are proud of our former Eagles. Both Kandrick and Matt work as volunteer assistants for our program and work day jobs as well," said Winthrop head track coach Ben Paxton. "Their time and effort for us as well as for themselves is greatly appreciated. To see this success is huge for them and huge for the program."
