ROCK HILL, SC—After two rounds of the Winthrop Intercollegiate, the Winthrop women's golf team is 10 strokes back in fourth place.
The tournament is being played at Rock Hill Country Club over a two-day period and the 12-team field played 36-holes on Monday. The overall leader is Belmont Abbey College, which holds an eight shot lead over Princeton, a nine shot lead over Xavier and the 10 shot lead over the Lady Eagles.
Meagan Wallace fired back-to-back 77's and Carley Warrington shot 76-79 (155) to pace Belmont Abbey. Wallace is currently in second place overall, just one shot behind Anna Jang of Princeton. Jang fired a 74 in the first round and followed that with a 79 (153). Winthrop's Rachel Smith and Warrington are tied for third placed at (155).
Belmont Abbey opened up with a 312 and led Princeton by four strokes after the first round and were 18 strokes ahead of the Lady Eagles. However, Belmont Abbey followed up with a 320 second round and Princeton had 324 while Winthrop shot the low score of the second round of the day with a 312.
Winthrop's Kayla Cline had the second best day for the team as she's currently tied for 16th after shooting 86-77 (163). Katie Bolling is tied for 20th after an 83-81 (164) and Danielle Dunnagan is tied for 30th after an 83-84 (167). Ellie O'Brien rounds out the top five players for Winthrop as she's tied for 35th as she followed up a first round 92 with a 77 in the second round.
Playing as individuals for Winthrop are Allison Itria and Katie Keiser, who both finished with a 173 combined score after two rounds and are tied for 46th.
The teams will wrap-up the Winthrop Intercollegiate with an 18-hole, 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
