CHARLOTTE, NC– Winthrop's Ashley Howard has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the League announced today.
Howard, a senior from Wilmington, OH, notched a Big South-record throw of 166 feet, 6 inches to win the discus at the ASICS Winthrop Invitational over the weekend. Her mark is currently the sixth-best throw in the country and is the third-best mark in the East Region.
The men's award went to High Point's Jesse Cherry, a senior from Eagle River, Alaska, who posted a school-record time of 28:44.03 to finish sixth overall in the 10,000-meter event at the Stanford Invitational. His time is currently the sixth-fastest time in the nation in the event.
