SPARTANBURG, SC--The Winthrop men's golf team closed out its regular season with a 10th place finish at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational which finished up Tuesday afternoon at the Spartanburg Country Club.
The Eagles shot a final round of 295, their best of the 54-hole event and finished with a team score of 889. East Tennessee led wire to wire to claim the 22nd annual Invitational title as the Buccaneers finished at 17 under par.
Winthrop's top individual performer was sophomore Kyle Bearden (Barnwell, SC) who finished in a tie for 24th place at 220 (72-73-75). He was followed by freshman Brad Sill (Duncan, SC) who shot 221 (74-75-72) and tied for 29th place. Freshman Kamito Hirai(Summerville, SC) shot 225 (79-74-72) to finish in a three-way tie for 45h. Red-shirt freshman Cameron Bell (Charlotte, NC) had a score of 228 (77-75-76) to tie for 57th position while sophomore Brandon Truesdale close out Winthrop's scorers in 68th place with a 233 (74-78-81). Sophomore Jordan Sease (Lexington, SC) competed as an individual and shot a 224 (77-76-71) to tie for 43rd place.
Michael Stewart of ETSU took the individual title with a seven-under par performance. Stewart recorded 16 birdies and a tournament-low score of 66 in the second round to finish with a score of 209 (72-66-71).
Winthrop will return to action next Monday when it competes for the Big South Conference Men's Championship at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, SC.
