Mike McGuire Accepts Head Coaching Position At Louisburg (NC) College

McGuire Spent A Total Of 12 Seasons With Eagles Baseball Program

ROCK HILL, SC – Winthrop associate head baseball coach Mike McGuire, who served two separate coaching stints with the Eagles, has been named the head coach of the Louisburg (NC) College Hurricanes.

This is the second head coaching stint for McGuire as he also served as head coach at Lander University in Greenwood, SC from 2003-05, where he compiled a 90-80 overall record.

McGuire began his coaching career at Winthrop in 1997 under former Eagle head coach Joe Hudak and stayed until 2002 when he left for the Bearcats program. He returned to Winthrop in 2006 after spending three seasons with Lander. McGuire spent a combined 12 seasons with the Eagles, and has 17 years coaching at the collegiate level.

“I want to thank Joe Hudak for hiring me at Winthrop,” McGuire said. “I coached with Coach Hudak for 11 years in two separate stints and with Coach Riginos this year. It has been a good 12 years as an Eagle. I felt this was a great opportunity at Louisburg College. It is a junior college program with a great tradition where we can compete nationally. It will be our goal each year to get to Grand Junction, CO for the Junior College World Series. It is a realistic goal at Louisburg.”

He came to Winthrop after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Morehead State where he served as Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

“Coach McGuire is going to be missed around the Winthrop baseball program,” said head coach Tom Riginos. “He put a lot of time and effort into the program. I personally want to thank him for helping me with my transition this year. Mike will be a very successful head coach at Louisburg College. I wish him, Angela and their kids all the very best.”

The Eagles Volunteer Assistant Coach, Jeff Stanek, will also join McGuire on the coaching staff at Louisburg College.
