ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop women's head basketball coach
Kevin Cook has announced the addition of
Liberty Del Rosario to his coaching staff.
Del Rosario comes to the Lady Eagle program after spending the past season at Eastern Michigan University. Del Rosario was an assistant women's basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University this past season. She helped lead the Eagles to a MAC West Division championship and a conference tournament championship. Eastern Michigan ended their season (23-9 overall) with a loss to South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
“We are very pleased that Liberty has joined the Winthrop family,” said Cook. “She brings an incredible work ethic to our program on a daily basis, and has a blend of youth and experience. She is not just a talented recruiter but a basketball coach who will help us on the court and in game preparation.”
Prior to Eastern Michigan, Del Rosario served as an assistant at Morgan State University. In her first season at MSU, the Bears had a 17-15 record and finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a 10-6 mark. As a reward for their season-long efforts, the squad earned the program's first ever Division I postseason appearance with a trip to the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).
Del Rosario spent four seasons on the sidelines at Cleveland State University helping the program become a perennial contender in the Horizon League. She began as the team's director of basketball operations (2006-2009) before being promoted to assistant coach for the 2009-2010 campaign. Del Rosario helped CSU return to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons in 2009-2010. Cleveland State went 19-14 overall, marking the third straight year the Vikings won 19 contests. Seeded fourth in the league tournament, the Vikings defeated University of Illinois-Chicago, top-seeded Phoenix of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and second seeded Butler University to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
When hired in 2006-2007, Del Rosario had the distinction of being the first-ever director of basketball operations in program history. She was responsible for coordinating all the team's administrative duties including travel, meals, summer camps, personal matters and community relations.
While at CSU, she coached Kailey Klein, the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,140 points.
Del Rosario earned a B.A. in psychology from Notre Dame College in Euclid, OH and a Master's of Education with emphasis in sport management from Cleveland State.
After graduating from Notre Dame College, Del Rosario began her coaching career with her alma mater in 2002. She spent five seasons as an assists at Notre Dame College before moving on to Cleveland State.
Prior to arriving at CSU, Del Rosario served as an assistant women's basketball coach from 2002-2006 at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio.
