ROCK HILL, SC--The Winthrop baseball team used two big innings to defeat College LaFleche 13-6 ain a fall exhibition game at The Winthrop Ballpark.
The Eagles jumped on the visitors from Quebec for four first inning runs and added seven more in the fifth inning of the seven-inning contest. Winthrop finished the game with 14 hits and showed some power as they finished with two home runs, five doubles and a triple.
Outfielders
TJ Olesczuk and
Cody Dolan did most of the damage for the Eagles as they blasted home runs in the fifth inning. Olesczuk connected on a three-run homer to left while Dolan added a two-run shot to left to give the Eagles a commanding 12-4 lead after five frames. Dolan, a senior who is entering his second season at Winthrop, also drove in the first two runs of the game with a double in the first as Winthrop jumped on LaFleche starting pitcher Phillipe Langlois.

Leighton Daniels had two hits each for Winthrop. Both of Menken's were of the extra base variety. The JUCO transfer from Elgin Community College had a first-inning triple and doubled in the fifth. One of Daniels' hits was a double.
Winthrop sophomore southpaw Sam Kimec started for the Eagles and was credited with the win as he went two innings, allowing four hits and no runs while striking out two batters. Eagle head coach

Josh Strong struck out the side in his only inning on the mound. As a unit, the Eagle pitchers allowed six runs on 10 hits.
The game was a bit sloppy defensively as both teams committed four errors that led to four unearned runs for Winthrop and two by College LaFleche.
Winthrop concludes fall practice with the final game of its World Series on Monday at The Winthrop Ballpark. The Eagles will open the 2014 season at home on February 14 when they host Akron in the first game of a weekend series.
