Strong Start Doesn't Hold Up As Eagles Fall To High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Despite getting off to a great start, the Winthrop baseball program fell to High Point in their Big South Conference opener on Friday.
 
The Eagles are 5-15 (0-1 Big South) overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winthrop got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning
  • After a Hunter Christopher single, Ty Hooks doubled to bring him in for the first run of the game
  • After a wild pitch saw Hooks advance to third, Joseph Szvetitz singled him home for a 2-0 lead
  • Jack Spyke then homered a couple pitches later to give the Eagles a four-run advantage
  • High Point got a run back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double
  • Neither team scored again until High Point notched a two-run home run in the fourth to get within one run
  • In the bottom of the next frame, a solo home run helped the Panthers tied the score
  • After a scoreless sixth, High Point took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single
  • The Eagles had runners on second and third with two outs in the ninth inning, but were unable to get them home
